FLORENCIA B. PULHIN, PhD
Dr. Florencia B. Pulhin has 42 years of experience in forestry and natural resources research. She did pioneering researches on carbon stock assessment of various land uses in the Philippines, conducted greenhouse gas inventory for the land-use change and forestry (LUCF) in the Philippines and part of the interdisciplinary team that carried out the first integrated assessment of climate change impacts, vulnerability and adaptation in watershed areas in the Philippines that serve as foundation in conducting subsequent related climate change studies in the country. Her research has significantly contributed to the application of various methods and techniques on carbon stock assessment in the Philippines. In terms of significance, her path-breaking research findings provided the much-needed baseline data on carbon density and content of the different land uses that are necessary for assessing the contribution of land-use change and forestry sector in the total greenhouse gas emissions of the country. Such baseline data was used in the preparation of the Philippines’ First and Second National Communication (on climate change) submitted to the United Nation’s Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) that serve as one of the bases in the international negotiations and policies on climate-related concerns.

Projects

Ongoing
APN-Albay
This project will provide maps of vulnerabilities and risks of the province based on different scenarios. Impacts of forest fragmentation in relation to multi-hazard vulnerability including the complications of Covid-19 will be investigated.
