To gather data for the preparation of formulation of a PES mechanism in Barobbob watershed, the Research for Development: Payment for Ecosystem Services Outcome for Sustainable Water Provision (R4D: PESO SWaP) in Barobbob Watershed, Nueva Vizcaya, Philippines project team conducted household and irrigation surveys last February 2023.
Together with six trained enumerators who are graduates of Nueva Vizcaya State University, the project team conducted data-gathering activities in the municipalities of Bayombong and Solano. They have interviewed 60 households that have water connection in the Provincial Waterworks System (PWWS) to find out issues connected to water use in the two municipalities. From the survey, issues connected to irregular water supply and sanitation were identified by PWWS consumers.
Meanwhile, trained enumerators also held an irrigation survey on 190 lowland farmers. The irrigation survey aimed to gather information on farming and earnings of the beneficiaries of irrigation from the Barobbob watershed, locally known as Paoac Barobbob.
The project team also did courtesy visits to MENRO Arnel Domincel and MENRO Marilyn Juan of Solano and Bayombong, respectively.
